John Hamilton Alton was born between 1765 and 1784 in Calvert Co., Maryland. He was a slave trader by occupation. He was married to Susanna, who died before 1840 in Calvert County. They had at least one known son, John Alton (ca. 1810-1848). Descendants live in Maryland, New Jersey, Kentucky, Texas and elsewhere.

Richard Simmons died ca. 1777 in Ann Arundel Co., Maryland. On the 29 October 1769 he purchased 128 acres of land in which later became known as Richard's Purchase and is at present a portion of Greenwich Park in Ann Arundel County. Richard was the great grandfather of John Spriggs Simmons. John was born 1815 in Maryland and married Elizabeth Nowell in 1839. They were the parents of two known children.
