James Hamlin, son of James Hamlin, was baptized in 1636 in Reading, Berkshire, England. His family immigrated to Massachusetts. He married Mary Dunham. daughter of John Dunham and Abigail, in 1662 in Barnstable, Massachusetts. They had thirteen children. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New York, Vermont and Ohio.

James Hamblen (d.1690), a brother of Thomas Hamelin and son of Giles Hamelin, immigrated in 1639 from England to Barnstable, Massachusetts. Most of the book spells the surname as Hamblen (like the second subtitle), although the author states that "the correct spelling of the name is a question of doubt"--P. 51. The first third of this volume contains genealogical data and family history about the Hamlyn or Hamelin or Hamlin family in England to 1066...

Captain Giles Hamlin was born about 1622 in England. Giles arrived in America before 1851 and resided in Hartford, Connecticut, before settling in Middletown, Connecticut. He was a mariner for almost fifty years. In 1655 he married Hester (ca. 1628-1700), daughter of John Crow of Hartford, Connecticut. Giles died 1 September 1689. A number of his descendants lived in the New England region with others scattered across America.

They were married on November 20, 1662 in Barnstable, Mass. They had 14 children. James died in Tisbury, Mass. on May 3, 1718. Mary died April 19, 1715. Their descendants lived in Massachusetts, Iowa, California, Connecticut and elsewhere.
