Wynant Gertise Van der Poel, son of Gerrit Van der Poel and Cornelia Wyant, was born in about 1620 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He married Trynie Melgerts in 1640. They had five children. He died in 1699 in New York. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Iowa and Wyoming.

Anton Peter Anderson Bruun (1878-1964) was born in Denmark. He married Clara Ellamay Vaverpool (1892-1980) in 1913. They had three children. Their daughter, Helen Velma Brown (1918-1996) married Loyd Francis Bates (1907-1981) in 1933. Tney had three children. Helen married Albert Raymond Sauerwein (1919-1968) and they had one son. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Colorado.

John Francis Bates was born in 1947. When he was nineteen he was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In this book he tells the story of several of his ancestors who lived in Washington, Colorado and several southern states.
