Hugh Blair immigrated from Scotland to America by way of Ireland with his wife and several of their children. John Blair was born in 1749 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. John Blair married Jane Gamble and they were the parents of eight children. He later married Hannah Caruthers and they were the parents of seven children. In 1780 John moved to Washington County which was then a part of North Carolina, but is now part of Tennessee. He died in 1819....

There were at least six main branches of the Blair family which settled in eastern Tennessee. Most of these families appear to have migrated west from Virginia and settled in Washington, Blount and Monroe counties, as well as other eastern counties. Descendants live in Tennessee and other parts of the United States.
