In the mid-1850s three families by the name of Gibson immigrated to the United States from what is now Northern Ireland. Upon their arrival they went to the copper mining town of Eagle Harbor, Mich. Families arrived in two groups. First group came in 1853 and the second a year later. Within ten years they had all moved to western Dubuque Co., Iowa. James and Agnes Gibson brought their family to America from Ireland in 1853. Several of James brothers also came with the family. They settled in Illinois. They had seven children but only four grew to adulthood. Information on their descendants who gradually moved west into South Dakota, Wyoming, Idaho, Washington, California and elsewhere, is included in this volume.
