Edward Winks (1840-1936), son of Samuel Winks and Ann Crowder of Nottinghamshire, England, left his family first to go to Scotland. In 1868 he came to America. He settled in New York City. He married Christina Geminden, daughter of Carl and Mary Philman Geminden of Brooklyn, New York in 1878. They had thirteen children. The family lived on a farm outside Scottsville, Virginia.

Sterling Johnston (ca. 1770- ca. 1843), son of Abraham Johnston and Susannah, was born in Halifax County, North Carolina. He married Sarah McGregor, daughter of Anthony McGregor (d. 1804), in about 1790. They had four children. He married Nancy Carter in about 1805 and they had seven children. He died in Warren County, North Carolina. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in North Carolina.

John Pelopidas Leach was born 17 January 1846 in Leachburg, Johnston Co., North Carolina. He was the son of John Quincy Adams Leacha and Eliza Anne Thompson. John Pelopidas Leach married Ellen Douglas Moore 2 December 1872. They lived in North Carolina and were the parents of seven children. Descendants lived in North Carolina, Virginia, Georgia and elsewhere.
