Elsey Family Association

Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Elsey (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from England, Germany, Scotland, and Switzerland. Some settled in Jamaica (West Indies), and in Maryland, Massachusetts, South Carolina, and Virginia in the 1600-1700's. Francis Elsie was born in 1871 in Canada. He married Hattie Church and they had four children, all born in Michigan. Alfred E. Elsie was born in 1879 in Canada. He married Elizabeth R. Pengelly. They had six children, all born in Michigan. Edward John Elsie was born in 1874 in Canada. He married Elizabeth and they had two children, both born in Michigan.

Samuel Elzea was born in 1789 in Virginia. His father was John Ellzea. He married Frances Self in 1813 in Frederick County, Virginia. They had eleven children. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Virginia and Missouri.

John Berry P. Elzy was born in about 1821 in Georgia. He married Rebecca Standridge in 1839. They had seven children. He died before July 1870 in Arkansas. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Georgia, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas. Includes Fagan, Robinson, Wood and related families.

Thomas Elzea was born in 1790 in Virginia. His father was John Elsea or Elzea. He married Elizabeth Johnson (1800-1852) in 1819 in Frederick County, Virginia.They had seven children. He died in 1881 in Missouri. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Missouri.

James Hurry was born in 1786 in Virginia. He married Rebecca Elsey, daughter of William Elsey, in 1803. They had two children. He married her sister, Margaret in 1815. They had four children. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

Isaac Elsea, son of William Elsey, was born in 1776 in Virginia. He married Matilda Burgess in1804 in Frederick County, Virginia. They had three children. He died after July 1860 in Indiana. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in Indiana, Ohio, Iowa and Kansas. Includes Custer, Gillet, Groves, McCloud and related families.

William H. Elsey was born in about 1827 in Ohio. He married Delia M. Metcalf in 1849 in Madison County, Ohio. They had three children. Delia died in about 1855. He Phebe Marilla Bardwell in 1858 in Delaware County, Ohio. They had two children. William died in 1863 in Tennessee in the Battle of Chickamauga. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Ohio, Missouri, Arkansas and Kansas.

Harrison Elsey was born in about 1814 in Tennessee. He married Helena Alvina Ledbetter (1823-1901) in about 1847. They had nine children. He died before June 1900 in Arkansas. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Arkansas. Includes Laningham and related families.

John Elsey was born in about 1782 in Virginia. He married Elizabeth Montague in about 1803. They had five children. He died in 1859 in Scott County, Indiana. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Kentucky, Indiana, Kansas and Missouri. Includes Cox, Greer, McCullum, Poore, Shields and related families.
