History of the Scobie family originally of North Woodside, Glasgow, Scotland. Family members immigrated in 1828 and 1830 first to Utica, N.Y., where they stayed briefly continuing on to Lanark and other counties in Canada. James and Rebecca Wright Scobie with at least eight children came to Utica, N.Y. ca. 1830. Their son, Alexander, came to Lanark, Ont. in 1828 via New York. Samuel Sloan was born in County Monaghan, Ireland in the late 1700's. He married Mary Banning, who was born in County Armagh, Ireland. They had seven children. The family emigrated to Tilbury East Township, Ontario, Canada.
