John McDonald was born ca. 1792 in South Carolina. He married Margaret Emory (b. ca. 1793) and they settled in Tennessee. In 1834 they moved to Green Hill, Alabama and then by 1860 were back in Tennessee. Focuses on the children of John and Margaret and their families.

The Lindseys of Scotland are said to descend from Niord (b. 40BC) who was King of Sweden. The earliest tracable ancestor was Sir Hierome Lindsay of the Mount, Lord Lyon, who married Margaret Colville. They were the parents of David Lindsey (1603-1667) who immigrated to Virginia as early as 1655. He was the father of at least five children. Angus McDonald (d.1776/1779), son of Angus, immigrated from Scotland to Falmouth, Virginia in 1746, moved to Winchester, Virginia in 1754, and married Anna Thompson in 1766. Descendants lived in Virginia, Ohio, Missouri, Alabama, Florida and elsewhere. Includes ancestry in Scotland to about 500 A.D.
