Benjamin Lutton worked in copperworks in Maryland before arriving in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to work in the iron mills. He married Jane Perrine Lutton, his brother James's widow, in 1828 and raised a total of ten children (two of his brothers and eight of his own).
