John Henry Meierdierck was born 13 April 1921 in Newark, New Jersey. His parents were John Henry Meierdierck and Ida Getto. He married Mildred Marie Giles 6 September 1943 in Ft. Meyers, Florida. They had three children. He was a colonel in the United States Air Force.

Joel Giles was a direct descendant of the Giles family that immigrated to Plymouth, Massachusetts on the second voyage of the Mayflower. He married Amelia Merrill, and farmed land in Bound Brook near New Brunswick, New Jersey. About 1880 they moved to Newark, New Jersey. They had eight children born in Bound Brook and Newark.
