Thomas Shipp was born in 1727 in Virginia. He married Rachel Grant and they had 10 children after 1747. Jan Joosten Van Metre came from Holland to New York about 1660. He and his wife, Macyken Hendricksen, had five children, ca. 1647-1660. His son, Jost Janse "John Van Metre of New York" (ca. 1656-1730?) married Sarah Bois (1664-1730?) in 1682 at Kingston, New York. They had five children, 1683-1695.
