Greenbrier County, West Virginia, was part of Botetourt County, Virginia, in 1775. These lists do not include all of Greenbrier County. It covers only area of the Greenbrier River and its tributaries.
Lists were transcribed from the original records at the Botetourt County Courthouse in Fincastle, Virginia. They were copied in the same order as they appear on the original lists with the original spellings.

John Williams (ca.1714-1763) married Mary McCoy, and immigrated from Wales to Botetourt County, Virginia in 1736, moving before 1750 to Augusta County, Virginia. Descendants lived in Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, New York, Florida, California and elsewhere.

Thomas Adair Stinson (1863-1945) married Margaret Elizabeth Creany (1873-1943) in 1891 in Clark Co., South Dakota. They had fifteen children. His grandparents, John and Sarah Mowbray Stinson were married in 1820 at Ballintra, County Donegal, Ireland and both of them died at Tamworth, Lennox-Addington Co., Ontario, Canada.

In 1918, Clifford James Stinson (1891-1966) and Mabel Elvina (Eliassen) Peterson (1895-1977) were married. Mabel's father, Elias Marius Eliassen changed his name to Peterson when he immigrated to Canada from Norway. In 1882, they immigrated to Dakota and then to Iowa. Descendants gradually scattered to Texas, California and elsewhere.
