The numbering of these cases will not follow the original numerical order. Since the cases fell apart and it was impossible to restore the original numbers, the cases were given a new numbering system and the circuit clerk's office indexed them. Records are not in chronological order, no inclusive dates indicated. "The court cases date back to 1793 in origin of the suits, but many date back much earlier as cases from other areas were sent to Green...

"The court cases date back to 1848 in the origin of the suits. Some suits were started in Green County, the parent county of Taylor, and then moved to Taylor when the county was formed, thus making the date earlier than the county beginnings." -- Prelim. p.

At the time that these order books were written, Green County also included the areas of Adair, Barren, Cumberland, Metcalfe, Pulaski, Russell, Taylor and Wayne. Part of them were breaking away during this time period.
