Description
George Giessendanner was born in Switzerland in 1655. He came to America and settled in South Carolina. His descendants were slave owners and this volume traces eleven distinct African American families, whose ancestors lived in Alabama and South Carolina and carry the surname of Gissendanner. The descendants of John and Martha Gissendanner, who were born about 1830 are particularly well represented. Descendants lived in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Pennsylvania, Michigan, California, New Jersey, Ohio, New York, and elsewhere. Includes Gissendaner, Gissendanner, Johnson, Jones, McRay, Reynolds, Warrick, Bailey, Bell, Benton, Brown, Burse, Doster, Gatson, Gipson, Gissentaner, Griffin, Hairsten, Hairston, Harper, Id-Deen, Jackson, Mannan, Matthews, Mc Nair, Middleton, Motton, Miller, Owens, Peppen, Rance, Rich, Smith, Snell, Spencer, Stewart, Tate, Thomas, Walker, Williams and related families.
