Description
The 1st trace of the Wheatley name was in 1356, when Sir John Wheatley lived at Castle-Bromwich, Leicester, England. This person may or may note be an ancestor of the familys know ancestors, John and Thomas, who came to the front after the campaigns of Edward Seymour, Duke of Somerset, in Scotland and France in 1544-45. Thomas served as captain; John, lieutenant. They obtained estates in 1547 at Frome and near Wells, not far from the Mendip Hills in Somersetshire.
Description
A descendant, John Wheatley (1718-1786), immigrated from Ireland to Lebanon, New Hampshire in 1800, Descendants lived chiefly in New England.
