Description
Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Stovall (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from England, France, Germany, and Wales. Some allied families came from England, France, Italy, Ireland, Mexico, and Scotland. Focus is on (but not limited to) the ancestors and descendants of Bartholomew Stoval (1665-ca. 1721). Bartholomew's earliest proven ancestors were his his great, grandparents, George Stobal (Stovold, Stoffolde, Stowfold) the first (born ca. 1555), and Lettice Stone of Albury, Surrey County, England. Bartholomew married Ann Burton, the daughter of Susannah Hatcher and Thomas Burton. Bartholomew emigrated from Surrey County, England to Henrico County, Virginia in 1684, and was the progenitor of many Stovall families in America. Early families settled in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia in the 1600-1700s. Some married persons of the Chickasaw, Choctaw, and Cherokee Indian tribes. Some others have African American bloodlines. During the 1800s, some Stovalls moved to Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma Territory, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Washington D.C., and West Virginia. Later descendants also lived in Australia, Switzerland, the Virgin Islands, and in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and elsewhere.

Issuing Body
Stovall Connections was founded in 1965, by Annie G. Castleberry (first president) for the descendants of Lewis Stovall, a descendant of the immigrant Bartholomew Stovall. In 1978, the organization expanded to include all descendants of Bartholomew Stovall. Most reunion groups still call themselves the Stovall Connections. Around 1981, Major William T. Stovall founded a non-profit family organization Stovall Historical Association for the Stovall Connections, the Stovall Research Committee, and other descendants of Bartholemew Stovall. This association was reorganized, renamed, and then in 1989, it was incorporated in the State of Louisiana as the Stovall Family Association. "The Stovall journal" is the voice of the Stoval Family Association, Inc. For more information, see their Web site.
