Serial for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Showalter families who came mainly from Germany (especially the Alsace region) and Switzerland. In the 1700's, some immigrated to Pennsylvania and Virginia. During the 1800's, some moved to Alaska, Indiana, Ohio, and West Virginia. Later descendants also lived in Illinois, Maryland, Missouri, South Dakota, and Virginia. Some focus is on immigrant ancestors: John Showalter (1767-1815) who landed in Philadelphia in 1744; Christian Showalter (d. 1799) who immigrated to Lancaster County in 1749; and Jacob Showalter (born ca. 1703) who left the Palatine region of Germany and landed in Philadelphia in 1750. Some of Jacob's descendants intermarried with Christian's descendants. Some were Anabaptists and Mennonites. Information is a collection and compilation of shared genealogical research extracted from deeds, family bibles, land and tax books, letters, marriage records, wills, previously published books and serials, and other sources. Years covered are from about the mid-1700's to 2002.
