Description
Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Ranney (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from England, France, and Scotland. Early ancestors probably came to Scotland from Renaix (Belgium) and in Rennes, Brittany (France). Some allied families came from Ireland. Some focus is on (but not limited to) descendants of Thomas Ranney (1616-1713) and his wife Mary Hubbard (1641-1721). Thomas emigrated from Scotland, and was one of the first settlers in Middletown, Connecticut. He married Mary in 1659, and had eleven children. Their family lived in the southern part of Middletown, called the "Middletown Upper Houses (MUH)," which was later known as Cromwell. In 1727, their grandson, Willett Ranney built an historic homestead there. Another immigrant ancestor was Henry Sargent Ranney, who emigrated from Devon, England in 1849 with his wife and children, and settled near Cleveland, Ohio. Other Ranney ancestors were founding fathers of villages and cities, such as Menunchetuck and Guilford (Connecticut), Youngstown (Ohio), and Rome (New York). In the 1600-1800's, some immigrated to British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec (Canada), and to California, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Vermont, and Wisconsin. Later descendants also lived in Venezuela, and in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington, Wyoming, and elsewhere.
