Publication history: "Estes trails" was founded and edited by Mary Estes (Shelby) Beckham from vol. 1 no. 1 (July 1980) to vol. 13 no. 3 (spring 1994). After she died in April 1994, her daughter, Carol Jean Shelby, assumed editorship for the Summer 1994 issue. After which Larry D. Duke (previously the publisher) assumed editorship. He published three issues under the title "Estes family newsletter" for the interim of 1995, then resumed publishing again under the title of "Estes trails" on a quarterly basis.

Numbering Peculiarities
Vol. 15 no. 4 (Dec 1997) was misnumbered as vol. 19 no. 4; vol. 16 no. 1 (Mar 1998) was misnumbered as vol. 20 no. 1. Vol. 5 no. 3/4 (July/Oct 1985) is a double issue. Frequent numbering errors in earlier issues.
Description
Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Estes (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from Belgium, England, France, Hungary, and Italy. Some settled in Massachusetts, New York, and Virginia in the 1600s. In the 1700s, some settled in Kentucky, North Carolina, Rhode Island, South Carolina, and Tennessee. During the 1800s, some moved to Canada, and to Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Wisconsin, and the Indian Territories. Some have Sioux Indian bloodlines. Later descendants also lived in Australia, England, Mexico, and in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Kansas, Michigan, Montana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, Washington, Washington D.C., and elsewhere. Some names of slaves are included.
