Description
This directory supplements the newsletter for the Moyer families in America, primarily the ancestors and descendants of James Lytle Moyer. A sailor by the surname of Morey or McMyer immigrated from Ireland to America. He married, and had a son, Frederick. After the sailor was lost at sea, his widow married Daniel Griener. Frederick lived with his mother and Daniel in Berks County, Pennsylvania between 1790 and 1820. Daniel changed his stepson's surname to Moyer. Frederick Moyer married Maggie Sarvey, and had nine children born between 1803 and the late 1830's. Their descendants lived mainly in Georgia, New York, and Pennsylvania. James Lytle Moyer (1852-1889), was a grandson of Frederick and Maggie S. Moyer, and was the youngest of eight children of David Moyer and Elizabeth Ludwig. James was born in New York State, and moved to Oswayo, Potter County, Pennsylvania. In 1874, James married Malinda Amelia Sherwood. James and Minnie were converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1884, and moved to Ogden, Utah. They had three sons. Both James and Malinda died of Rocky Mountain spotted fever; Malinda died in 1887 and James in 1889. Descendants and relatives lived in California, Idaho, Oregon, Utah, and elsewhere.
