Description
Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Van Voorhees (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from the Netherlands. Some focus is on (but not limited to) descendants of Steven Coerts Van Voorhees (1599-1684), who immigrated in 1660 from the the Province of Drenthe in the Netherlands to New Amersfort in New Netherland (Long Island, New York). He married Aeltje Wellels, and later married Willemtje Roelofse Seubering. Special focus on the family lines of his children: Albert, Aeltje, Coerte, Hendrickje, Jan, Jannetje, Lucas, and Merghin Stevense. Early families lived in New Jersey and New York in the 1600's. In the 1700's, some settled in Pennsylvania. During the 1800's, some moved to Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Wisconsin. Later descendants also lived in Alberta and Ontario (Canada), Chile, Japan, the Netherlands, and in Alaska, Arizona, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Louisiana, Maine, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Washington D.C., West Virginia, Wyoming, and elsewhere. Some have African American bloodlines. .

The Van Voorhees Association was founded by Rev. Dr. Oscar M. Voorhees in 1932. Membership is open to any descendant of Steven Coerts van Voorhees and those related by marriage or adoption by Van Voorhees descendants. Membership and other information can be found on their web site.
