Charles Curtis was born in 1860 in Kansas, His parents were Orren Curtis and Ellen Pappan. His maternal grandmother was a member of the Kaw or Kansa Indian tribe. He married Annie Baird. He was elected Vice President of the United States with President Herbert Hoover in 1929.
