Description
Periodical for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Sawyer families who came mainly from England. Some immigrated to Massachusetts and Virginia in the 1600's. In the 1700's, some moved to Connecticut, Kentucky, Maine, North Carolina, and Vermont. During the 1800's, some moved to Illinois, Kansas, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin. Some focus is on (but not limited to) families who moved from Tyrrell and Washington counties of North Carolina to the Staunton Township in Macoupin County, Illinois. Many were related to Captain Stephen Thomas Sawyer (1829-1901) and his wife, Margaret "Peggy" Jarman. Stephen's brothers were Valentine, Lemual, and Alphis Sawyer. They fought in the Civil War. Many of their family members are buried in Macoupin County, Illinois in the Tine Sawyer Cemetery and the Valentine Sawyer Cemetery. Later descendants also lived in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Missouri, Nevada, and elsewhere. Information was taken from Bible records, cemetery records, census records, court records, deeds, marriage records, military records, newspapers, school records, and other published works. Dates covered are from the 1600's to 2004.
