Description
Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Akin (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from Ireland and Scotland. In the 1600's, some immigrated to Massachusetts. In the 1700's, some settled in Delaware, Kentucky, New Hampshire, New York, South Carolina, and Virginia. During the 1800's, some moved to Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec (Canada), and to Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, the Nebraska Territory, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas (Indian Territory). Various related and unrelated Akins families are given. Some focus is on (but not limited to) the family of the editor, Angela Kay Crook Strzelecki through her father's line. Angela's paternal grandparents were Viva Imogene Nalley and Carlston Elbert Crook. Carlston's parents were Fannie Mae Akin and Charley T. Nalley. Many of the editor's family came from the Leadhill, Arkansas. Later Akin descendants also lived in Japan, and in Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington, Wisconsin, and elsewhere. Information is taken from cemetery records, census records, death records, funeral home records, marriage records, military records, obituaries, pensions, and other official records.
