Description
Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Cripe (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Focus is on (but not limited to) descendants of Jacob Greib (b. 1712), whose surname was Anglicized to Cripe or Grippe when he emigrated from Germany to Philadelphia in 1733. Jacob settled in York County, Pennsylvania, married Elizabeth Ulrick ca. 1740, and had ten children: John, Jacob, Elizabeth, Susannah, Daniel, Mary, Samuel, Esther, Catherine, and Hannah. They later moved to Huntington County, Pennsylvania. One of Jacob's grandsons through Daniel was named Rhinehart Cripe (b. 1791). Rhinehart married Sarah Winebright, who died in 1819. He later married Elizabeth Hetrick or Hedrick. Cripe families lived in Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania in the 1700s. During the 1800s, some moved to California, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin. Later descendants and relatives also lived in Germany, Russia, and in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Texas, and elsewhere. Birth, marriage, and death information is extracted from census records, newspaper obituaries, shared research, the Social Security Death Index, the Soundex, and other resources.
