Description
Bulletins for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Mershon families in America. Focus is on the descendants of Henry Mershon II, who was born ca. 1672. Henry came with his father, Henri Marchand, probably from Caen, Normandy. They were Huguenot refugees. Henry was left with friends in New York while his father returned to France for the rest of the family. Around September 20th, 1684, Henry moved from New York to Maidenhead Township, near Lawrenceville, Hunterdon (now Mercer) County, New Jersey. He married Ann (Hougthon?) and had ten children: Henry, Ann, Elizabeth, Houghton, Sarah, Thomas, Mary, Andrew, Peter, and Rebecca. In 1738, Henry died and was buried in the cemetery on the hill at Lawrenceville (formerly known as Maidenhead), New Jersey. Henry Mershon II is buried in the cemetery on the hill at Lawrenceville, New Jersey. Later descendants also lived in California, Florida, Kansas, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Washington D.C., and elsewhere.
Reproduction
Digital reproduction of the original minutes, bulletins, correspondence, souvenirs, and other papers are in the possession of Noel R. Barton (donor).
Issuing Body
The Mershon Association is also known as the Association of the Descendants of Henry Mershon. It was first organized in 1923, although Mershon families held reunions as early as 1876. Since 1923, annual reunions have been held at the Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church, erected in 1764 on the family's property at Maidenhead, Lawrence Township, New Jersey. The Association is comprised of descendants of Henry Mershon II and his wife, Ann and has several regional branches world-wide. For more information, see their Web site.
