Description
The descendants of Martin Egle, whose ancestors lived in Switzerland by the name of Egli. Many of his ancestors were Mennonites and probably emigrated to Germany to escape religious persecution, where they changed the name to Egle. Christian Egle (1822-1892), whose ancestors lived in Monsheim, Lerchenhof, Wimsheim, Heimsheim and Schloss Obermonsheim, Württemberg, settled in Riet near Vaihingen, also in Württemberg, Germany. He and his wife, Maria Rediger, and four of their five children emigrated in 1874 to Livingston Co., Illinois. Their son Jacob emigrated before 1878 to Chase Co., Nebraska and settled in Van Nuys, California about 1926. Others settled throughout Illinois, Nebraska, Kansas, California and elsewhere in the United States.
