James Henderson " ... said to have come originally from Leadhills, Lanarkshire, Scotland, ... "--P. [1]. married Elizabeth Rooke in 1792. She " ... was born in 1770 at Lasswade. ... [She died presumably in] " ... Massachusetts as there is a stone in the family lot at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington, recording her death date on 2 Oct. 1847 ... "P.-- [1]. After James died, his widow (and the four youngest of eight children) immigrated from Scotland to Charleston, Massachusetts. Descendants and relatives lived in New England, New York and elsewhere. The family established a business of carriage building, particularly significant in the nineteenth century, and lasting until the early twentieth century. Descendants lived in Massachusetts, New York, California, Ohio, Michigan, New Jersey, Missouri, Illinois and elsewhere.
