William Lee (born Arfst Knudtsen), son of Knudt Arfst Knudtsen and Elena Margaretha Becker, was born in Akersum, Fohr, Denmark in 1837. He immigrated to Australia in 1855. He married Alice Irwin (1844-1885), daughter of James Irwin and Mary Wetheral, in 1864 in Bowen, Queensland. He married Mary Dearden Cunningham in 1885. He died in 1929 in Sydney, Australia.
