Description
Journal for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Caraher (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from Scotland. The name originates with the clan MacFearchair, i.e. the son of Feachair, Gaelic-Irish and Gaelic-Scots. In the 1700's, some immigrated to Ireland. During the 1800's, some moved to Australia, Canada (especially British Columbia and Ontario), England, New Zealand, the United States of America (especially California, Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Montana, Massachusetts, New York, South Dakota, West Virginia, Wyoming), and elsewhere. Includes brief history of Caraher Hills, where the family of Patrick Henry Caraher established in the Territory of Illinois, West Chicago, in 1863. Information is extracted from baptismal records, Bible records, birth records, census records, church records, civil registrations, death records, declarations of allegiance, deeds, directories, emigration records, estate records, family trees and histories, gravestone inscriptions, local histories, marriage records, newspapers, obituaries, other published works, parish records, pedigree charts, valuations, wills, and other sources. Dates covered are roughly the 1400's-1993.
Language
Some text is in Gaelic.
