Numbering Peculiarities
This library used chronological order to organize the issues, as some number designations were skipped, some issues were misunumbered, and some numbering systems were inconsistant. Some issues were not numbered, or were misnumbered in 1988-1989. Vol. 61 no. 4 (autumn 1995) was misprinted as vol. 69 no. 4 (autumn 1995), which was followed by vol. 70 no. 1 (winter 1996). Some designations on hard copy do not match the corresponding issues on-line.
Numbering Peculiarities
Vol. 71 no. 1/2 (winter/spring 1997), and vol. 74 no. 2/3 (spring/summer 2000) are double issues.
Description
Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Rice (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from England, to settle in Connecticut and Massachusetts in the 1600s. Some participated in the New England Planters' migration to Nova Scotia during the early 1760s; others moved to Mississippi and Vermont. Main focus is on (but is not limited to) descendants of Deacon Edmund Rice (1594-1663) who came from Bury, St. Edmunds, Suffolk, England. He married Thomasine Frost (1600-1654) in 1618, who was the daughter of Edward Frost and Thomasine Belgrave. In 1626, Edmund and Thomasine Rice moved to Hertfordshire, England, and in 1638, they immigrated to Sudbury (now Wayland), Massachusetts. Edmund later married Mercy Hurd ca. 1656. Edmund's lineage traced back to William the Conqueror (1027-1087). In the 1700s and afterward, some descendants of Edmund and other Rice progenitors also settled in Alberta, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Ontario, Quebec, and Saskatchewan (Canada), and in Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, Washington D.C., Wisconsin, and elsewhere. Some adoptions are noted. Information is primarily biographical sketches, birth and marriage announcements, book lists, cemetery inscriptions, census extracts, member lists & lineages, obituaries, reports of reunions and meetings, and shared genealogies.
