Includes the papers of General George Pearson Buell and his father-in-law, Judge John Smith Brien, and their respective families. General Buell was a native of Indiana. During the Civil War, while stationed in Nashville, he met Rochette Brien, daughter of Judge Brien, and they were married in December 1865. The Briens were native Tennesseans.
General Note
Includes information pertaining to: (1) the papers of Judge John Smith Brien, including his opinions regarding secession and politics during the 1850's; (2) military papers both for the Civil War and wars against the Indians west of the Mississippi.
