Genealogy of the Cowles families of America, ca. 1614-1929. Includes descendants of John Cowles (d. 1675) of Farmington, Connecticut, and Hatfield, Massachusetts; Richard Cowles (c. ca. 1666) of Virginia; Joseph Cowles (fl. 1782-1790) of Torrington, Connecticut; Daniel Cowles of Ballaugh County, Isle of Man, whose children immigrated to New York and Maryland; Daniel Cowles (b. 1785) of Cornwall, England, and Gallipolis, Ohio, and other Cowles families.
Description
John Cowles was living in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1659; in Famington, Connecticut, in 1666, and died in Hatfield, Massachusetts, in 1675. He and his wife, Hannah, had seven children. Descendants lived in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, Ohio, Vermont, and elsewhere.
Description
Richard Cowles purchased land in Charles City County, Virginia, in 1614. He died ca. 1666 at which time his son, Edmund, inherited the land. Descendants lived in Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and elsewhere.
