Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Demuth (and variant spellings) families who came from Alsace, Austria, Baden, Bavaria, Bohemia, Brussels, Czechoslovakia, Dresden, France, Germany, Hesse Darmstadt, Hesse Nassau, Holland, Lusitania (Portugal), Luxembourg, Moravia, Prussia, Saxony, and Switzerland. Some allied families came from England and Ireland. In the 1700s, some settled in Ontario (Canada), Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina. Ancestors include (but not limited to): Christof Demuth (ca. 1650-1727) of the Ohio line; Gotthard Demuth (1694-1744); Gotthard's nephew Gottlieb Demuth (1715-1776); Frederic Demuth (1851-1929) the son of Karl Marx (the father of Modern Communism); and "Col."Henry C. Demuth (1897-1997), the internationally known painter. Some focus is on (but not limited to) the Moravian and Palatine immigrants and their descendants. During the 1800s, some moved to Quebec (Canada), Bethlehem (Palestine), California, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, and Wisconsin. Later descendants also lived in British Columbia (Canada), France, and in Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Montana, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Washington D.C., West Virginia, Wisconsin, and elsewhere. Some were well-known blacksmiths, gunsmiths, millers, musicians, and tobacco shop owners.
