General Note
Solomon Joseph Despain (1823-1895) was a son of Solomon Despain and Nancy Bell. He moved with his parents from Alabama to Tennessee to Arkansas and then to Illinois. Solomon Joseph Despain married Ruth Amelia Newell in 1842, and in 1851 they became converts to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Robert Henry Despain (1875-1967) was a grandson, via their oldest son William Joseph Despain. Robert was born in Granite, Utah and married Julia Thomas in 1896 in Salt Lake City. They moved from Granite to Cowley, Wyoming before 1903, and to Lovell, Wyoming before 1911. Descendants and relatives lived in Utah, Wyoming, Idaho and elsewhere.
