Description
Catherine Messam (1821-1894), second child and eldest daughter of Henry Messam and Eleanor Gadsby, lived in Great Casterton and Little Casterton, married George Cotterill in 1841, became a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1849, and immigrated in 1853 from England to New Orleans, Louisiana. They started for Salt Lake City in 1854 (George died on the way), and Catherine married Absalom Wamsley Smith in 1855 in Salt Lake City. Descendants lived in Utah and elsewhere. Vol. 1 includes chiefly ancestors to the mid-1500s in England.
