Description
Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Bingham descendants of James Bingham of Kilmore Parish, County Down, Northern Ireland (Ulster). James was born in 1732 to Thomas Bingham and Elizabeth Hay. In 1753, he married Ann Cleland of Kilmore. Four of their children, William, Robert, Mary (Shaw) and Thomas Bingham left Northern Ireland to settle in North Carolina ca. 1785. Rev. William Bingham (1754-1826) became a Presbyterian minister and founded the Bingham School of North Carolina in 1793. The school continued until the 1920's, with three generations of Bingham headmasters. The school was later known as "the Inn at the Bingham School." After residing in Guilford County, North Carolina a few years, Thomas Bingham (1769-1854) moved to the Lebanon area of Wilson County, Tennessee and there established his large family. Ancestors of James Bingham are traced back to the 12th century. Early Binghams settled in Delaware, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. Later descendants also lived in Kenya (East Africa), and in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington D.C., West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming, and elsewhere. Updates on living descendants are included.
