General Note
"In January of 1985 I received a photocopy of a typewritten document obtained ... from archives in Krefeld, Germany. The typed sheets were a fourth copy of a family history and genealogical record, written in the Dutch language, begun by Gerrit Roosen in the year 1683. Gerrit Roosen, known as Gerhard Roosen in German records, served as the pastor of the Mennonite community in Altona, Germany. He also proved to be a guiding force among the scattered Mennonite colonies in Europe and he influenced American congregations through correspondence, which is still extant ... the fourth copy was typewritten by the genealogical researcher Nachlass W. Niepoth. To facilitate the use of this priceless information, I have prepared two manuscripts; the first is a clean copy of the Niepoth reproduction and the second is an English translation. Brackets confine my insertions in both instances ... Dorothy Jensen Schimmelpfennig.".
