Description
John Brown (1664-1740) was the son of John Brown and Isabel Wier of Priesthill, Ayrshire, Scotland. His family moved to Ireland while he was still young. In 1720, he and his brother James, together with their families and friends emigrated to America and located in the Saratoga region near the present site of Middletown, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. He and his wife were the parents of seven sons: Andrew, William, Alexander, James, Benjamin, Joseph and Mathew. James was born in Paxtang Twp., Dauphin Co., PA. He married (1) Eleanor Mordah (1724-1752) in 1746, (2) Mary McClelland (d.1774) in 1754 and (3) Susannah Simons in 1775. James settled in Cumberland Co., PA. Family members lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Kentucky and elsewhere. Several generations of descendants are given.
