General Note
"The Abraham Hembree data project began in a Spartanburg courthouse in 1825 when Judge Theodore Gaillard tried to organize some facts about Abraham Hembree in a way that could be understood and accepted by others. It was revised in northern Georgia in 1906 when some of Abraham's descendants tried to prove ... that the family had Cherokee blood in them going back to Abraham Hembree"--Preface.

Description
Abraham Hembree (or Emery) was born May 16, 1757 in South Carolina. His parents were William Emory (ca. 1727-1770) and Mary Grant (ca. 1728-ca. 1766). It is believed that Mary was of Cherokee descent. Abraham married Winnifred Jackson in 1777 or 1779.
