General Note
The family of Graves is one of the most ancient in England with spellings of De Grevis, De Greves, Greve, Grave, Greaves, Greeves and Graves and lived from the early days in Lincoln, Nottingham, Derby and York counties. Contains a list of these early Graves/Greaves families starting with the reign of Henry III. Includes portraits of Richard Graves (1677-1729), Thomas Graves (1745-1828), Charles Graves (1812-), and Alfred Perceval Graves (1846-). Some of the following information is taken from "Sketch of the Graves Family in England" in Genealogy of the Graves Family in America, vol 1, John Card Graves, 1896 and other sources.
