Description
Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Ashleys (and variant spellings) who came from England and Ireland. Some focus is on (but not limited to) five family lines. These are: (1) the Old Colony Ashleys descended from the brothers Abraham and Joseph Ashley of Rochester, Massachusetts, ca. 1700; (2) the Pioneer Valley Ashleys descended from Robert Ashley of Springfield, Massachusetts, ca. 1638; (3) the Southern Ashleys descended from Ann, Sam and Mary Ashley, who settled Virginia in 1623-1634; (4) the descendants of Lord Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 1st Earl of Shaftsbury, of Wimborne St. Giles, Dorset (England), who owned a barony on the Ashley River in South Carolina, and who came to America after 1800; and (5) descendants of William Holbrook, of Bath (England), who immigrated ca. 1850, and died 1870 in New Jersey. Families of these and other Ashley progenitors lived in Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont, and Virginia in the 1600-1700s. During the 1800s, some moved to Ontario (Canada), and to Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, New Hampshire, Ohio, Tennessee, and Texas. Later descendants also lived in Alberta (Canada), and in Arizona, California, Florida, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Washington D.C., Wyoming, and elsewhere.
