Description
Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Dawes families in America. Focus is on the descendants of John W. Dawes (1783-1864), who was born in Elizabethtown, New Jersey and died in Leon, Wisconsin. He and his first wife, Susan Crance had one child, Sarah who later married Jake Depew. After Susan died, John married Elizabeth Patterson (1787-1866). Their 12 children were born in New York: Adrian (Adren), Jeremiah, Lorenza & Phoebe (twins), Francis, John Roy, Samuel, William M. & Daniel M. (twins), George M., Joseph, and Ananias Wells Dawes. Descendants of these twelve branches of the Dawes families lived in British Columbia and Ontario (Canada), Korea, and in Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, Washington D.C., Wisconsin, Wyoming, and elsewhere.

Issuing Body
The first John W. Dawes Family Association was formed by Charles O. Schaffer in March 1964, in Pasadena, California. Its first activity was held in 1967. The John W. Dawes Family Association was formally organized by Richard Marion Dawes and Addie Marie McKay, his wife, who is a great-granddaughter of Robert Mackay Sr. Headquarters for the Association were in Fort Worth, Texas until 1982, and later moved to Crescent City, California. The Association is comprised of several ancestral branches representating descendants of the twelve children of John W. Dawes and Elizabeth Patterson. Fore more information, see their Web site.
