Description
Eight Swafford brothers, probably the sons of James Swafford of Greenville County, South Carolina, migrated to Tennessee about 1810. Descendants of these brothers, Jacob Swafford (b. 1762/3); Paul Swafford; John Swafford (b. 1770); Abraham Swafford (b. 1772); Isaac Swafford (b. 1774); Aaron Swafford (b. between 1774 and 1784); Thomas Swafford (b. 1783); and William Swafford (b. 1785), lived in Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Illinois, Ohio, Kansas, and elsewhere. The surname is also spelled Swofford, Swaffer and Swaffar.
