The Old Cherokee Nation included the states of Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas, where the Cherokee people settled during the internal strife of the Cherokee Nation West and the Civil War. Some lived in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia in the 1700's. During the 1800's, some settled Alabama, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, and Washington D.C. Later descendants also lived in Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and elsewhere. Provides extensive lists of names, addresses, and phone numbers of libraries and archives having strong reference materials on the topic of American Indians. Also provides names and addresses of battlefield sites, military parks, national parks, national forests, and national monuments with historical significance for their ancestors.
