Description
"Our Howey family is traced back to England of 1770 when Jonah Howey at the age of 18 years emigrated from England to Pennsylvania. He was born about 1752. Subsequently he married and on July 7, 1787 he came into Canada with his wife Winnifred [Silverthorn] ... and two children ... It is believed that he was in New Jersey at the time of the Revoloution. ... Jonah Howey died in 1842 and is buried in the old Red Meeting House cemetery."--P. 1. Winnifred Silverthorn was the daughter of Thomas and Johanna Newman Silverthorne who lived in New Jersey and later in Stamford, Ontario, Canada, where Thomas, a United Empire Loyalist, died in 1788. Descendants and relatives lived in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Iowa, Oklahoma, Minnesota, South Dakota, California, Illinois Canada and elsewhere.
