Description
Johannes Conrad Wirz (1706-1763), son of Johannes Conrad Wirz and Magdalena Klingler, was born in Zurich, Switzerland, and as a youth served as a military cadet in the service of the King of The Netherlands. He returned to Zurich to practice law, and in 1734 immigrated (via Rotterdam) to Philadelphia. While waiting in Rotterdam, he married Anna Goetschi, and decided to become a Presbyterian minister. They settled in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, moving about 1750 to Morris County, New Jersey, and in 1762 to York, Pennsylvania. Descendants (chiefly spelling the surname Wurts) and relatives lived in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Kentucky, Illinois, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana and elsewhere. Includes much ancestry to the 1200s in Switzerland, and biographical sketches of some Swiss ancestors and some American descendants and relatives.
