Description
Chiefly descendants of Revolutionary War Major " ... Abraham Kirkpatrick [who] was born in Cecil county, Maryland, in the year 1749 and died in Pittsburgh Nov. 17, 1817."--P. 8. The names of his parents are not known, but the family was of Scotch decent " ... and were warm adherents of Prince Charles Edward, the Pretender to the throne of England, whose fortunes they followed up to the fatal defeat of ltheir leader on the bloody field of Culloden in 1746. The family then fled to America and settled down at or near Elkton, Cecil County, Maryland ... "--P. 8. Major Kirkpatrick married Miss Mary Ann Oldham on 23 November 1786 in Woodville, Washington County, Pennsylvania. Upon his death in 1817, Major Abraham Kirkpatrick was buried in the " ... Trinity Church Graveyard, on Wood street, Pittsburgh; afterwards the body was removed to the Allegheny Cemetery."--P. 13. The death of Mary Ann Kirkpatrick on 9 January 1813 was reported in the Pittsburgh Gazette. Descendants lived in Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, New York, Maryland, Missouri and elsewhere.
