Description
The immigrant ancestor, Johannes Steinseiffer, came to America in 1749. He landed at Philadelphia, Pa. He brought with him his wife Elizabeth and seven of their eight children. The oldest, Johann Heinrich (b. 1725), came to Philadelphia in 1753. He settled in Culpepper Co., Virginia. His first wife is believed to have been Mary Huffmann, with whom he had seven children. He married (2) Ellen Burck in 1782 and (3) Alcie Furthermore. Descendants live in Georgia, North Carolina, Alabama, Texas, New York, Tennessee, Illinois and elsewhere. The name Steinseifer came from the name of a small village, Steinseifersdorff or Stone Polishers Village, in extreme East Germany. Family members migrated to West Germany and settled in the small town of Eiserfeld.
